Mobile Deposit FAQs

What is Mobile Deposit?

Mobile Deposit is a service that allows you as a customer to deposit a check through the Bank of Pontiac mobile app using the camera on either an iPhone or Android smartphone. Mobile Deposit is fast, free and secure for active Bank of Pontiac online banking customers. Please be aware that message and data rates may apply so please check with your communication service provider for any access rates, texting charges and any other applicable fees.

How do I enroll for Mobile Deposit?

  1. From the mobile app on your iPhone or Android device, go to the menu in the upper left-hand corner and select Mobile Deposit and then Enroll.
  2. Complete and submit the enrollment.
  3. Within 2 business days you will receive an email indicating you have a message in online banking.
  4. Log into your online banking account to retrieve your message. From a PC, select the Contact Us option at the top of the screen to display your messages. From the mobile app, select Message Center from the Menu.
  5. If you have been approved, you are now ready to begin using Mobile Deposit.

Who is eligible for Mobile Deposit?

Mobile Deposit is open to consumer and small business accounts that have been open for at least 60 days, and the account is maintained is a satisfactory manner. For other business accounts with a larger volume of checks to deposit, Remote Deposit Capture is recommended.

Note: The Bank reserves the right to revoke Mobile Deposit at any time for any reason, and reinstatement would be allowed only after a review of the affected account.

How should I endorse checks?

Please endorse the back of each check and print “For Mobile Deposit Only” or “For Mobile Deposit Only, account _________” above or below your signature. Failure to properly endorse a check may cause the deposit to be rejected.

What items can be deposited through Mobile Deposit?

Single-party checks made payable to the account owner or joint accounts owner(s) that have properly endorsed the check.

What items cannot be deposited through Mobile Deposit?

The following items should not be submitted:

  • Bank of Pontiac checks drawn on the account to which you are making the deposit.
  • Single-party checks-checks written to someone else, endorsed and signed over to you.
  • Incomplete items-checks that are missing a signature or other information.
  • Non-negotiable items-checks that have a “Non-Negotiable” watermark or check stubs.
  • Returned checks-any check that has been previously deposited and returned for any reason.
  • Altered checks-any check that has evidence of a change such as correction fluid or crossed out amounts.
  • Foreign checks-any check drawn on a non-U.S. financial institution.
  • Stale-dated checks-any check that is more than 6 months from the date of issuance or any check that has on the face of the check “void after XX days” and is outside that stated period.
  • Rebate checks
  • Savings bonds

How will I know if a deposit has been successfully submitted?

You will receive an email notification indicating if your deposit was approved or rejected.

How much can I deposit through Mobile Deposit?

The standard default limits for mobile deposits are $10,000 per day and $30,000 per 30 day calendar period. In addition, there is a limit of 30 checks per month that can be deposited.

When will my deposit be credited to my account?

Bank of Pontiac will follow the same Funds Availability Schedule for mobile deposit as is followed for all deposits made in person so mobile deposits made before 3:00 PM CST will be available the next business day. Mobile deposits made after 3:00 PM CST would be available the second business day following the deposit. Business days are Monday through Friday, with the exception of Federal holidays.

What do I do with a check once I have deposited it using Mobile Deposit?

Once the item has been deposited to your account, either mark the check as Mobile Deposit with the date, Electronically Presented or mark the check “Void”. Please retain the check for a period of 60 to 90 days before securely destroying the check by shredding.

Is Mobile Deposit secure?

Bank of Pontiac’s online banking, mobile apps, mobile deposit and other services we offer to make banking more convenient are safe and secure. However, it is important that you also take appropriate steps to protect the security of your mobile device and accounts. We recommend:

  • Locking your mobile device
  • Keeping your mobile device secure at all times
  • Keep your online banking login and password secure
  • Never share your login or passwords for any financial services product
  • Contact the Bank immediately if you think your login information has been compromised
